Best bite is early in the morning along the Texas middle coast

Welcome to the weekly saltwater fishing reports for the middle coast of Texas. The reports are gathered from Texas Parks & Wildlife Department WEEKLY REPORTS and local fishing guides. Check out the TPWD website for a listing of reports from the entire Texas coast, lakes and rivers.

PORT O’CONNOR: Trout and redfish are good on topwaters and live bait over sand, grass and shell in San Antonio Bay. Trout and redfish are fair for drifters working the back lakes with live shrimp. Trout are good in the surf when the wind allows.

Trout fising has been pretty good lately despite lots of weather challenges. San Antonio Bay shell in 2-4′ of water continues to produce solid catches while mud/grass still holding some fish on big wind days. Back lakes Redfish action “stunning” in the words of Capt. Chris C. although the fish have been near impossible to see with all the water.—Capt. Kris Kelley

ROCKPORT: Trout are fair to good in the guts and channels on free–lined shrimp. Trout are fair over grass while drifting with live shrimp. Redfish are good on the flats on shrimp and topwaters.

Capt. Raymond “Slick” Appel – “This past week fishing has been real challenging. The water temp has been in the upper 90s and the fish is biting in the early mornings. The flats as been really good early morning for reds and trout, I have been using cut and live mullet for reds and free-line Croaker for trout in the pot holes. The wells of Aransas Bay has been holding some good numbers of trout free-line piggies has really been good and or you can use a popping-cork and live shrimp. In the heat of the day I have been going a little deeper and finding some reds in about 3or4 feet of water. And if you see a lot of bait fish in the water the reds also has been under the bait fish. Wear plenty of sun screen and drink plenty of water its been really hot out there.”

PORT ARANSAS OFFSHORE: Offshore is good for kingfish and red snapper.

PORT ARANSAS JETTY: Trout, redfish and sheepshead are fair to good at the jetty on shrimp and croakers.

PORT ARANSAS BEACHFRONT: Trout are good in the surf on topwaters and croakers.

CORPUS CHRISTI: Trout are fair to good on the edge of the spoils on Gulps and live shrimp. Redfish are good in the potholes on shrimp. Trout are good on croakers in the sand holes.
